Giving my best sour-sweet shot at cultural, ethical, and literary considerations. "Off-modern" is a shoutout to Svetlana Boym, who put forth the term as a way of discussing a different way of interacting in the world—one that neither embraces nor totally gives up the modern project, but which also doesn't allow itself to fall into postmodern irony. (A better way, methinks, of saying I'm a square peg.)
